What are the benefits of CrossFit training?

We get asked that a lot. But first, let’s start at the beginning …

What is CrossFit training?

CrossFit is a fitness program that combines cardio, body weight exercises, gymnastics and weightlifting movements into a Workout of the Day (WOD). It includes movements similar to those people use in everyday life, which is why it’s also called functional fitness.

What are the benefits of CrossFit training?

Improves Physical Strength – The workouts are different each day. A new set of exercises are programmed for the WOD that are performed at a high intensity. These movements challenge your muscles and joints with variety and when combined with weights, can help you gain muscle strength and stamina.

Improves Endurance – CrossFit workouts are based on the principles of high intensity interval training. That means there is a specific work / rest ratio. The “work” is to be performed at max effort with periods of rest.
These types of workouts are designed to bring your heart rate up so your body can learn to increase the maximum amount of oxygen it can utilize during exercise. Simply put: more oxygen = more endurance!

Improves Agility, Balance and Flexibility – CrossFit workouts include functional exercises that mimic movements you do every day in life. Movements such as box jumps (or step-ups), squats, kettlebell swings, or jumping rope can help to improve agility, balance, and flexibility which can also reduce the risk of injury.

Helps with Weight Loss – CrossFit is highly efficient at burning calories. The American College of Exercise estimated that men burn an average of 20 calories per minute doing CrossFit and women average 12 calories per minute. And what’s even better is that you continue to burn calories after your workout which is known as the “Afterburn effect. Combined with a healthy diet, CrossFit is a great way to kick start your weight loss and accomplish your goals.

Strengthens Your BrainResearch suggests that regular exercise alters the structure of the brain, improves cognitive functioning and stimulates chemicals which positively affect the health of brain cells and blood vessels. Areas of the brain responsible for memory, concentration, creativity, and wellbeing benefit from physical activity. Great!

Anyone Can Do It – Every workout can be modified or adapted for people of any age or fitness level in order to help them achieve their goals. Some might think that CrossFit is only for people who are already in shape but that couldn’t be further from the truth. CrossFit can be for anyone!

Community Support – CrossFit is known for its strong sense of community. You meet other people with similar fitness goals and you train together to accomplish those rather than alone at a regular gym. With CrossFit group training and our experienced coaches, you’re always learning and trying something new. That keeps things fun and interesting!
